North Central Arkansas boasts some of the finest fishing opportunities in North America.  Whether you're looking for brown or rainbow trout in the tailwaters of Norfork and Bull Shoals Lakes, or more interested in bass, crappie and walleye on the lakes themselves, you will have unlimited angling opportunities in this mecca.  Local guides can provide a full-service experience, while self-starters can rent a boat from one of the local marinas or trout docks.  Bring your own gear or rent equipment locally.  There are any number of ways to get engaged in this sport, which is among the most popular pursuits in the region.

Norfork Lake is a short drive away and several local marinas offer boat and other watercraft rentals that allow for incredible summer fun.  Wakeboarding and surfing, tubing and even scuba diving are enjoyed by many on these tranquil waters.  Reservations are recommended well ahead of time.

The Ozarks offer some of the most breathtaking scenery in the region.  There are both easy and challenging trails scattered throughout the area that offer the opportunity to get off the beaten path and enjoy the natural beauty firsthand.  Whether you are looking for scenic vistas, majestic waterfalls and rock formations, or just looking for some exercise, the trekking opportunities abound. 

The Ozark Mountains offer some of the best trails in Mid America.  Local offerings include Syllamo, David's Trail and the Ozark Highlands Trail.  Bring your own bike or rent one from a local outfitter.  The area terrain will accommodate both the beginner/novice as well as those with more advanced interests.  There are local shops that rent and sell equipment.  Reservations in advance are always recommended.

The North Fork and White Rivers are waterways that allow for a relaxed floating experience that can be enjoyed by virtually all skill levels.  The nearby Buffalo National River is one of the most scenic in the country, and in certain seasons can present a nominally more challenging rate of flow.  All of these streams can provide a very enjoyable means of exploring the natural beauty of the Ozarks.  There are several companies that operate locally who can provide kayaks, rafts, tubes and shuttle services between drop off and pick up points.  Reservations in advance are always recommended.

Whether you're just looking for a quick burger or a romantic dinner for two, there are options on both ends of the spectrum and everywhere in between.  Norfork Brewing Company or the Rusty Rail Saloon in Norfork, and Juniper's Back Door in Calico Rock offer a place for those who are thirsty for social interaction to enjoy a drink with friends.  PJ's White River Lodge and The Grill at Whispering Woods offer finer dining for special occasions.  Local eateries like Heidi's Ugly Cakes and The Front Page Cafe serve up lunches that are locally famous.

Small town Arkansas often harbors big finds when it comes to antique shops and flea markets.  Whether you are seriously shopping for a new piece of furniture or merely browsing and enjoying some of the memories of yesteryear, the local shops and stores will be just what you're looking for.

A short drive from Norfork and Calico Rock is Blanchard Caverns, a vast network of underground caves that is operated by the National Park Service.  Guided tours allow visitors to explore these underground wonders with relative ease.

Many of the local hiking trails also provide access to caves of various sizes.  We recommend checking with local regulations regarding cave access as some are closed to exploration due to safety hazards and wildlife protection.

There are several fantastic golf opportunities available locally.  Big Creek Golf and Country Club is a short drive from Norfork and is on the Natural State Golf Trail.  It is regularly voted to be one of the top public courses in the state.  Coopershawk in Melbourne similarly is one of the more popular courses in the region and is a reasonably short drive from Calico Rock.  Twin Lakes Golf Course in Mountain Home provides an economical option for those who want to hit the links.  Tee times and reservations are always recommended in advance.
